What came first.....
The egg allergy or the chicken allergy?
I will admit up front that I am a "Know it all"...not because I actually do....but because I like to think I do.. I tend to talk and talk....and talk. Ty is very patient- but when he starts to sigh and put a smile on his face- I know I have gone too far. But- every so often I have the opportunity to put my foot in my mouth and learn something new. Sometimes when I tell people my girls are allergic to eggs, they ask "Can they have chicken?" I always thought to myself.. What a silly question! Of course they can- the egg is not chicken meat! Last November Brooklyn was trying one food at a time (bad results) and when we tried chicken- simple plain cooked- unseasoned chicken- she had an anaphylactic reaction. This resulted in her 3 month hiatus from all food. Yesterday we took her to the allergist to do further testing on individual foods again before we start food trials again. I told him about Brooklyn's reaction to chicken, and he said ...."Hmmm that's interesting"
There is only ONE protien common between the egg and the chicken - it is very rare to be sensitive to this protien - but my kids have everything uncommon. It is called Alpha-Livetin (click on the name for more info). It only occurs in the less allergenic egg yolk...and also in the chicken meat. Who knew! Apparently being off all other foods allowed Brooklyn's body to recognize that one tiny protien. It will be interesting to see if it affects her blood allergy levels or if she will tolerate it again at a later time. I love learning new things...I just wish I didn't have to learn them the hard way.

You are such a strong Mom! And a great one too! I don't know if I would be so positive if I had to go through all that you and your Family do with food allergies and things. I've learned a lot from you and am so greatful for your good example! You're Awesome and so is your Family! Good Luck! We pray for you often.
