Our schedules at ourhouse for the last few YEARS have been filled with Doctors visits- It is our lot in life or our Trials given to us to learn and grow (we must still need to work on this) Thanks to moving often we have seen more than our fair share of Allergists, pediatricians, dentists, Chiropractors, and Gastroenterologists. and yes- they have all attended Medical School- and all SHOULD give sound advice- and yet we have seen some very good doctors and some very "not good" doctors - said in the nicest way possible. The ones who make you say Hmmmmmm... Let me ask around first.
Getting a second opinion because you question the doctors advice is one thing...being SENT to get another opinion means the doctor doesn't know anything, and doesn't want to admit it. Our Current Pediatrician has sent us somewhere else everytime we have gone in recently for a rash, smashed finger, warts, sticker up the nose, tummy pain and asthma. AS well as charged exorbant fees for simple procedures. All things which we felt the pediatrician should have been able to address., and prices which should be included in the visit...she's fired- we are looking for a doctor with more experience .(I think we may have found one- hopefully.) We took Cristine in for her wheezing and asthma and she sent us to get an EKG on her heart... What?! No thank You!

Then there are the doctors who have told us that our kids are just trying to get "attention" or may be "exxagerating the pain". I call it the "I know it all- and you don't" doctor complex. They think they have seen "it all" and therefore do not think outside the box - or trust you as a parent either. When Brooklyns stomach pain was real- with a real diagnosis- I felt I wanted to scream at the first few GI's who said nothing was wrong. When the Orthopedic Doctor said that Cristine's back pain was not real or "not as bad as she thinks it is" -I wanted to strangle him - you see I have a mommy bear attitude- I must protect my kids. He sent us to get an MRI "if we really wanted to." We took the better option. It turns out the Chiropractor pegged it as her asthma and her back is NOT twisting- but the muscles in between the ribs (which are working harder because her asthma is not in control) is pulling on her spine. WE saw the allergist - who did a lung function test- which was only at 50%!!!
WE now have a good allergist- and GI - so why is is so hard for us to listen when BOTH of those doctors suggest having Cristine see the GI and do an endoscopy to test for Esoinophilic stuff. - It makes sense- she has tummy pain occasionaly too- her asthma is not in control- despite we don't think its chronic (meaning she is reacting to "something" and she has no new allergies- AND her blood eosinophil levels are way above the High. and it just so Happens Brooklyn has Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis - and it is hereditary.

Oh good luck. That is miserable. I know that my mother in law went to doctors for years and years to find one that actually figured out why she was sick all the time (allergies). The rest would tell her that it was all in her head. One class I took showed that doctors fall victim to the same logical fallacies that we can all make, so we shouldn't be treating them like all knowing amzazing experts. I hope this new pediatriction works out for you.
Good Luck! Being a Parent can be tough sometimes especially when trying to protect our Children and do what's best for them. We too have had trouble finding good Doctors. For that reason we still go to our Doctors in Layton for Check-ups and big things. I have recently found a few good ones for emergencies here in Vernal, but I'm still sticking with our regulars in Layton. I had a Dr. here in Vernal ask why we were there for a follow-up appointment when he scheduled the appointment for us. It was for Aidan when he broke his arm. I just said because you told us to come in for a follow-up. Hello! So I really wish you the best of luck!
I know what you mean. Evelyn has constantly had a skin condition that makes her itch (especially in winter when it's drier). Everyone says it's eczema, but nothing seems to make it better (unless you count steroid cremes, but we don't want a 3 year old to be on steroids). We went to several doctors and tried several (sometimes expensive) forms of treatment. Nothing seemed to work, so we went to a natural food store and they told us to give her an omega-3-6-9 blend oil every day. It seems to have helped stop the itch, but her skin is still red in many places. Lotions of all kinds (Eucerin, Cetaphil, Aquafor, etc.) seem to have had no effect, and no doctor has really been able to explain what is going on.
It's sad that health care can be so expensive and yet you get no answers.
